The Directive on Cross-Border Health Care is published

Directive 2011/24/EU on the application of patients’ rights in cross-border healthcare has been published in the Official Journal of the European Union.

The Directive applies to individual patients who decide to seek healthcare in a Member State other than the Member State of affiliation. With regards to HTA, Article 15 of the Directive  makes provisions for support of the collaboration activities of the voluntary network of HTA agencies. Member States must adopt the necessary laws, regulations and administrative provisions by 25 October 2013. The text is available in official Member State languages.

The EUnetHTA Joint Action is currently working towards the objective of putting into practice an effective and sustainable HTA collaboration in Europe (see Activities/Joint Action 2010-2012) and EUnetHTA is currently developing a proposal on a Joint Action 2 (2012-14) for the Work Programme 2011 of the EU Health Programme.
